With more than 5,300 students and over 200,000 annual visitors, Rockland Community College’s campus serves as both an educational resource and a first impression of their offerings. Appel Osborne worked with the College to develop a Landscape Master Plan that established a long-term vision for strengthening that experience, beginning with a comprehensive assessment of circulation, accessibility, parking, infrastructure, open spaces, vegetation, signage, and existing maintenance practices. By understanding how students, faculty, visitors, and the community move through and experience the campus, the plan identified opportunities to create a more connected, welcoming, and functional environment.
The resulting plan provides RCC with a practical framework for prioritizing improvements and guiding future investment. Recommendations for campus beautification, wayfinding, accessibility, maintenance, infrastructure, and open-space enhancements are paired with future study needs and cost projections, creating a roadmap that balances immediate priorities with long-term stewardship. The plan positions the campus to evolve thoughtfully while preserving the welcoming, personal character that has defined RCC as a community resource since 1959.
