Project Type
K-12

In 2019, the Olean City School District and the community approved a capital project which included a new athletic facility and adjacent playscape area. While the new facility would be a significant upgrade for the district, safety was a driving factor in designating these upgrades in the scope of the project. The school was built on land that once belonged to a glass manufacturing plant, and geotechnical testing confirmed the site had extensive contaminated soils issues. The history of the site dictated thorough environmental testing to ensure the design addressed all safety concerns. The site was safely transformed into a new athletic complex with a 177,863sf multipurpose synthetic turf field and a new playscape with equipment to accommodate ages 5-12 and includes multiple ADA accessible elements. Project highlights include:

  • New synthetic turf field with inlaid lines for football, soccer, baseball, and softball.
  • Athletic complex is complete with bleacher seating, dugouts, and perimeter fencing.
  • Resurfacing of six tennis courts with new ADA accessible pedestrian connection from school building.
  • Concrete walk replacement with snow melt system.
  • Courtyard and play area improvements including poured-in-place surfacing, a kickball court, an extended space for physical education, a new basketball court and reconstructed adjacent asphalt play areas.
  • Asphalt replacement and drainage improvements.
  • New exterior digital signage.
  • Site work related to a vestibule addition at building entrance.

To better serve the students and promote the ability to spend time outdoors, the 2022 and 2023 capital projects addressed playscape and athletic field improvements at East View Elementary School.

  • Site design for a new playscape.
  • Equipment to accommodate ages 5-12 with poured-in-place surfacing.
  • New natural grass practice athletic fields for baseball and softball with an overlapping soccer field.
