Serving approximately 2,500 students across five schools, New Hartford CSD encompasses more than 110 acres of developed campus sites, providing a diverse setting for learning, recreation, and community connection. The District’s outdoor environments are an important extension of the educational experience and thoughtful site planning helps these campuses evolve alongside the District’s commitment to innovation and individualized student success, creating safe, accessible, and engaging spaces that support learning both inside and beyond the classroom.
The 2016 Capital Improvement Project included design for new playgrounds at three elementary schools, providing updated spaces that encourage active play and exploration. A comprehensive approach to campus circulation improved safety and efficiency by redesigning bus loops and parking areas to clearly separate bus traffic, parent and student drop-off, and general parking. Together, these improvements strengthened the daily arrival and departure experience while creating more cohesive and purposeful school environments. The scope of this project included:
- Replacement of deteriorated playground equipment and development of new playgrounds at three elementary schools.
- Site work related to building additions at multiple schools.
- Redesign of bus loop and parking to separate parking areas, bus traffic, and parent/student drop-off areas.
- Reconstruction of the existing service drive to accommodate bus traffic as part of the new traffic management plan.
An important element of overall learning is physical education and for many students, the participation in organized sports. The 2022 Capital Improvement Project invested in the district’s athletic facilities to ensure their long-term use and provide updated amenities. Project highlights included:
- New junior varsity softball field with dugouts, backstop, fencing, scoreboard.
- Reconstruction of access road.
