The dream of Carrier Park started to become a reality in 2009 when the Carrier Corporation donated 22+ acres of land to be developed into the community recreational hub. The vision for the park was to provide the Town of DeWitt with economic strength, stability, and security. The park is largely centered around the Syracuse Challenger Baseball program and rooted in the aspiration to create a home for the program. Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture worked with the Town to develop a park that is exceptionally accommodating to this program. Coined the “Field of Dreams”, the athletic fields and surrounding park features are fully handicap-accessible so that children and adults of all abilities can participate in sports and build community together. Carrier Park plays a key role in fostering a connection to sports, physical activity, and enjoyment of the outdoors for the special needs and broader community.
