AOLA had the honor of being part of the design team for URMC’s Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care – the first facility of its kind in the region. The walk-in clinic provides evaluations and interventions to help young people and their families experiencing distress without the need for an appointment. The new center involved the renovation of two wings on the ground floor of an existing building. It was critical that the building entry design not only complemented the aesthetic of the building but conveyed solace and support to remain consistent with the tone, environment, and goals of the services offered at the center. Biophilic design was implemented to support mental health, emotional health, create social connections, and aid in physical recovery. Thoughtfully considering the visual impact of nature to aid in stress recovery and stress reduction, the entryway plays a crucial role in supporting the center’s mission.
